ZaZen Report 98662

Last night the kids joined me for an evening sitting. About 14 minuets in the princess of chaos started kicking her big sister. I asked her to stop and she started crying. I held her and she covered her face. I pealed back her hands and saw that despite the convincing racket she was making she was actually smiling. But it was enough to draw her mothers attention and she joined us for the evening sitting too.

This morning I woke the kids and they were pretty excited to sit. I tried to wake their mother but she seemed to be enjoying a good dream. Oh well; maybe next time.

This morning’s sitting had quite a bit of horse play, and though I tried to just let it be, I opted to skip breakfast and have another sit instead.

I am still thinking about another set of cushions.

Jordan,
Thank you for your wonderful stories and letting us have a sneak peek at the Tortoise Sangha.

Jordan:

I would have thought you'd have been married long enough to know that you let sleeping wives lie.

But I guess this is typical for you. You get greedy for everyone to join you in Zazen.

Maybe they will one day but maybe for now you are the pioneer of the family and others may follow in time.

Whether they do or not is their choice not yours. All you can do is plant the seeds and prepare the ground. Anything more is grasping.

Perhaps.

Lauren,
The stardate is 62698.8. What is in the title is my zip code, so if there is someone in the area who wants to google Zen 98662, this blog pops up in their search and maybe just maybe they would enjoy some tea talk and sitting with a like minded individual... I had thought about giving a gridsquare, but naahh...

He he! I use the "Soto Timer" on my iphone, keeps everyone from fussing over a bell although it doesn't sound quite as nice. I don't have to worry about an infinite bell ringer either. Maybe in a few years I will downgrade to an analog bell. Weird that I think of lowtech as an improvement though....
