jordan - There are many stories about suzuki roshi and his affinity for large stones.
In one story Suzuki was working with some students at Tassajara trying to bust up a large boulder in the creek. They all took turns hitting it with a hammer and chisel at a seam in the rock. After many hours, Suzuki looked at his students and smiled and said, "You don't believe this rock will break, do you? But I know it will." He then jumped up on the stone and showed a student exactly where to strike the stone and when the student hit it there, the stone split in half.
